Our New Earthen Oven – Part 2

We finally capped the dome! Working without a sand form in the interior didn’t prove to be too difficult. A simple form was made out of corrugated cardboard cut into the shape of the interior of the oven. We just propped up the small adobes with a brick and other little bits I had been saving. Once you complete each course you can immediately remove them as it all holds together in compression. As you can see I have designed this oven with two brick arches in the doorway which provides an empty space for the chimney. Then it is time for the insulation around the entire oven, the plaster, and then… thin and crispy pizza!
