Full Moon Over Nevado Ausangate

We just returned from a 3 day trek around Nevado Ausangate (6,384 meters/20,945 feet) in the Cordillera Vilcanota which is south/southeast of Cusco. The trek starts in the town of Tinke although we picked up a taxi to get us to the thermal baths of Upis which enabled us to get deeper into the wilderness. From there we headed south around the mountain and camped near Laguna Puma Cocha. We were fortunate to have clear skies for our first night which was the full moon. The following day we hiked up to the ridge at 4900 meters (16,076 feet) where we could see further south and onto the beginning of Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountains). As you can see from the photos it is a very beautiful hike and we plan to return soon to do the entire 5 day Ausangate trek!
